EXCLUSIVE: Hruta Durgule on her debut in Commander Karan Saxena alongside Gurmeet Choudhary and Iqbal Khan

Hruta Durgule New Webseries

In an exclusive conversation, Hruta elaborates on her upcoming web series, Commander Karan Saxena. The actress further shares her journey and gives us insights into her role.

Hruta Durgule is one of the most renowned faces in the Marathi film Faternity. She has been marking her presence in the industry for a decade now. Hruta commenced her career by playing the title role of Durva in the Marathi serial “Durva.” Thereafter, the actress stunned everyone with several works, like Phulpakharu, Mana Udu Udu Zala, Ananya, Kanni etc. Now she is all set to make her debut in the Hindi film fraternity with Commander Karan Saxena, alongside popular actors like Gurmeet Choudhary and Iqbal Khan. In reference to that, she had a chat with us, elaborating on her journey for Commander Karan Saxena.

How was this process for you? How did you get into the skin of the character?

The experience was one-of-a kind. We shot for 32 days, and every day I got to learn something about myself and my character. In this entire process, Jatin Sir, Gurmeet Sir, and Iqbal Sir have helped me a lot to understand the character. I am a director’s actor. I definitely like to give my input, but I also understand that the director has the ability to see the larger picture. When it comes to Commander Karan Saxena, Jatin Sir was extremely clear as to what he wanted, and that helped me navigate through the character.

While you were preparing for the role, did you get to explore new things?

Yes. I had a lot of scope for learning and exploring. I had not played the role of policewoman before, so everything was new for me. As a police officer, I had to ride a bike and use a revolver as well. While shooting, I got to learn all of it. Apart from that, I got to learn a lot about action sequences and how to pull them off properly. One thing I realised while preparing for the role was that we always see policemen as heroes, and of course they are heroes. But this role made me realise they’re humans first. I formed a very different perspective on how to look at them.

What is the one thing that you learned from Gurmeet Choudhary and Iqbal Khan?

Since I had plenty of scenes with Gurmeet Sir, I got to learn a lot from him. I really admire his efforts and sincerity. He did every action scene on his own, and that motivated me to keep giving my best. His dedication to fitness is also something that I appreciate. It might be easy to reach a certain stage of fitness, but it is extremely difficult to maintain it, and he has maintained it very well. I did not have many scenes with Iqbal Sir, but I got to interact with him off-screen. He is a phenomenal actor; he just knows how to keep the fire in the scene.

Such roles demand intense physical training and diet. How did you prepare for it?

I did not follow any diet for this role specifically, but since a year I have been keeping a proper diet that definitely helped me for this role. And when it comes to physical training, due to the nature of the role, a lot of injuries were bound to happen, so I was prepared to deal with them. Fortunately, neither I nor anyone else on the team had a severe injury.
