Aanand L Rai on Dhanush in ‘Tere Ishk Mein’: “Some Emotions From Our Last Film Never Left Us”

Filmmaker Aanand L Rai and actor Dhanush are joining forces once again for their highly anticipated film Tere Ishk Mein. The director recently shared why this project could only have happened with Dhanush and how it connects emotionally to their earlier collaboration, Atrangi Re.

Reflecting on the journey from one film to another, Rai said, “After our last film, there were emotions we never fully let go of.” He explained that Tere Ishk Mein emerged from an “unfinished thought” that lingered long after Atrangi Re.

Rai further added, “Dhanush and I kept revisiting that space — what happens to love when innocence fades, when time changes people. Tere Ishk Mein grew from that unfinished thought.”

The film reunites the trio of Rai, Dhanush, and the legendary A.R. Rahman, with poetic brilliance once again provided by lyricist Irshad Kamil. For Rai, this film isn’t just another love story — it’s a mirror reflecting where he and his characters stand today: older, more scarred, yet still yearning.

At its core, Tere Ishk Mein — which also stars Kriti Sanon — explores a love that refuses to be simple or defined. It delves into the hearts of people who love deeply and lose completely, showing how that loss shapes them. The teaser teases a story soaked in emotion, one that lingers long after the credits fade.

The first glimpse of Tere Ishk Mein was unveiled on October 1, promising an emotional ride filled with passion, pain, and the relentless pursuit of a love that seems destined to remain incomplete.

On October 18, the makers released the film’s title track — a collaboration between Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman, singer Arijit Singh, and lyricist Irshad Kamil. The track combines Rahman’s soul-stirring music, Arijit’s heartfelt voice, and Kamil’s poetry — a trio once again destined to rule playlists.

The video gives a stirring glimpse into the emotional world of Tere Ishk Mein, hinting at a passionate tale of loss, longing, and unspoken pain between two lovers.

Directed by Aanand L Rai and written by Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav, Tere Ishk Mein is a musical journey crafted by A.R. Rahman, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil. Starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, the film is set to release worldwide in Hindi and Tamil on November 28.
